Helen Leverette Stewart, 82, a resident of Montgomery, Alabama died August 13, 2020, at Jackson Hospital. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 15^th at Lakeview Cemetery in Brundidge, Alabama with Green Hills Funeral Home directing. Evangelist Bill Robinson and Kyle M. Leverette will be officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Spivey, Ricky Stewart, Billy Jones, Will Spivey, Jay Spivey, Brady Newman, and Lamar Gibson.

Helen is preceded in death by her husband Kyle R. Leverette; parents, Jepp and Leila Motes, and brother, Donald Motes. Helen is survived by her husband G T Stewart; daughter, Laura (Mike) Spivey; son, Kyle M. (Alicia) Leverette; stepson, Ricky (Karen) Stewart; stepdaughter, Cindy (Billy) Jones. She is also survived by her grandson Will (Shelby) Spivey; grandson, Jay (Ashley) Spivey; granddaughter, Nelsey (Brady) Newman; granddaughter,  Sadie Leverette; grandson, Kyle Leverette; grandson, Howell Leverette; step granddaughter, Megan (Lamar) Gibson; step granddaughter, Mallory Jones; step granddaughter, Shannon (Josh) Newsome; step great grandsons,  Shawn Syed and Jensen Newsome and nieces, Brownie (Skip) Carver and Amanda (Chris) Perry. Helen was a lifelong learner who was both loved and admired in all fields of life. She began working at the age of 12 at Motes Furniture Company in Troy, Alabama and soon began to develop a passion for business education.  As a graduate of Troy State Teachers College and Auburn University, Helen excelled not only in her studies but also in her passion for teaching others. Following her education, Helen taught at Lanier High School from 1959-1969. Then, she moved back to Troy, Alabama and was employed by Troy State University in the registrar’s office and then as an Assistant Professor from 1970-1990.  While working at Troy State University, Helen served on the Adams Center Union Board for many years, served as the first faculty advisor for the Iota Kappa Chapter of Chi Omega fraternity and later served as Troy State University’s Panhellenic Advisor. Following her teaching career, she worked as a compliance officer for the First National Bank of Brundidge from 1990-2010. At the same time, she also served on the Board of Directors for the bank from 1992-2010. Helen was also active in community involvement in Pike County where she served on the Brundidge Planning Commission and the Brundidge City Council. Helen was a life-long follower of Christ and a member of Perry Hill Road Church of Christ where she and G T were faithful members. Helen will forever be remembered as a gifted Bible teacher to her ladies’ Bible class.

Above all, Helen will always be remembered by her family as faithful. Helen exemplified steadfast love to every aspect of her life. She could always be found cheering on her grandchildren at a ballpark or sitting at their school shows and performances. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, faithfulness and love that will be carried on for generations to come.
