The hay is in the wagon, the mules are in the barn so everything is a “go” for the 2020 Halloween Hayride at the Tupper Lightfoot Memorial Library in Brundidge on Thursday, October 22.

The wagon rides will leave Tupper every 15 minutes, beginning at 5 p.m. and ending at 8 p.m.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Garneshia Lampley, children and teen services, said the wagon master for the hayride will be Don Renfroe and he has planned a fun route from the library and back again.

“The Halloween Hayride will be a fun way to celebrate Halloween and the harvest season,” Lampley said. “But, because time and space for the Halloween Hayride are limited, reservations are required.

“We encourage those who want to celebrate the season with a Halloween Hayride to call the library at 334-735-2145 as soon as possible.”

Hayrides traditionally have been fun ways to celebrate the fall harvest season. They actually originated with farmhands and working farm children riding loaded hay wagons back to the barn for unloading. The hayride back to the barn provided a much-welcomed short time of rest for those who worked the hayfields.

Today, hayrides are held during the fall harvest season as fundraisers and fun-raisers.

“Tupper” encourages young readers to browse the library for books about the harvest season, farm life and, of course, witches, ghosts and goblins and, don’t forget, “Charlie Brown’s Halloween.
