Ariton secures playoff spot, Goshen falls to the Knights

The Ariton Purple Cats secured a spot in the Class 2A state playoffs with a 40-6 win over Cottonwood on Friday night in Ariton.

The win for the Purple Cats improves their record on the season to 5-5 overall and 4-3 in region play.

After going into halftime leading 14-0, the Purple Cats scored 26 second half points to pull away from Cottonwood.

Ariton finished the contest with 512 total yards, 461 of which came on the ground.

The Purple Cats had two players rush for over 100 yards led by Jordan Smith who finished with 127 yards. Corey Dozier finished with 100 yards and had two touchdowns.

Cade Webb led the Purple Cats in receiving yards on Friday. He hauled in two catches for 34 yards and he had a touchdown.

On the defensive side of the ball, CJ McNabb led the team with 13 tackles, while Jordan Smith had 11 and Zack Phillips had 10 including one tackle for loss.

The Goshen Eagles ended their season on Friday with a 52-6 loss to Montgomery-Catholic in Goshen on Friday night. The Eagles fielded three different quarterbacks throughout the game. Will Snyder threw for 13 yards on one completion out of three attempts, Jeff Warwick threw for 31 yards on four completions out of six attempts, and Tyler McLendon threw for 35 yards on four completions out of four attempts. On the receiving side, Jeff Warwick gained 27 total yards on two catches and scored one touchdown, and Blake Saupe gained 26 yards after he caught three passes out of four targets.The leading rusher for the Eagles was Will Snyder, who carried the ball three times for 20 yards with one run of 17 yards.

The Eagles finish the season with a record of 0-7.
