Karen Herring, TRMC marketing, said, with more than 25 years of surgical experience, Hodges understands the complexities that come with practicing in rural communities and is looking forward to serving Troy and the surrounding area.

Hodges quickly agreed that he is excited to be at TRMC, and said, with a smile, that he is a, at heart, “a rural backwoods man,”

Having also practiced his trade in Minnesota, Maine and Vermont, Hodges said he is proud to be “out of the snow” and in Alabama and is looking forward to being a part of the medical staff at TRMC and the community it serves.

Hodges has a quick smile and an easy way that will be a good fit in rural South Alabama.

As quick as his smile was his once-again admission that he is not a big city guy.

He was born into a blue-collar family and was the first in his family to go to college.

But, he admitted to being somewhat of a book worm but one who also spent time in a factory working with fuses and transformers.

In heart and mind, Hodges said he is a small-town surgeon who is happy to be in Troy and Pike County and at Troy Regional Medical Center, “a hospital that provides a broad pallet of high level skills and high quality of care for its patients.”

Hodges and his wife, have seven children and eight grandchildren. He shows his family pride with a Papa7-8 vanity tag.

When he’s not in surgery or preparing for surgery, Hodges admitted to playing “a little guitar” and also to having played with an acoustic rock band in times past.

“I was the third best guitar player in a two-guitar band,” Hodges said, laughing.

Hodges also enjoys woodworking and likes to ride his bike. He is pledging his allegiance to Troy University and is looking forward to being a part of the excitement of living is a small college town.

But, primarily, Hodges is a family man whose passion is for making people well again.

As a general surgeon, Hodges performs a wide range of services, including advanced laparoscopic surgery, surgery for cancer of the breast and colon, endoscopy of the gastrointestinal tract and, also, endoscopy/colonoscopy, hernia repair and appendectomies.

Those who are interested in scheduling an appointment with Hodges or referring a patient may call 334-670-5050. Hodges is located in the Doctor’s Building West, Suite 3 on the Troy Regional Medical Center campus.
