The Troy Trojans men’s basketball team (83-60) picked up a resounding 83-60 win over the SIUE Cougars (5-4) on Dec. 1.
Troy outscored SIUE 41-31 in the first half and 42-29 in the second half as the Trojans shot 50 percent from the field and held SIUE to 40.7 percent shooting. The Trojan defense also forced 15 turnovers and scored 23 points off turnovers. Troy won the rebound battle 39-30.
“This looked like the Troy Trojans that I have envisioned,” Troy Coach Scott Cross said. “We had a couple of four or five minute spells where we kind of lost our energy and our body langue dropped, but outside of that I thought we played a really good all-around game.
“It’s so great to see Aamer (Muhammad) back and shooting the ball with confidence. His roommate, Christyon Eugene, was feeding him the rock early on, and he got going. Now that he’s going, we’re going to be really tough to beat.”
Aamer Muhammad led the team with a season-high 21 points to go along with three rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot. Christyon Eugene added 12 points, four rebounds, six assists and a steal. Both Jackson Fields and Tayton Conerway scored eight points each.
Demarco Minor led SIUE with 14 points, three steals and five rebounds.
Troy is back on the road this Saturday, Dec. 9, for the school’s first nationally televised game of the season against Dayton on the USA Network.
