At a recent Coffee County Schools Board of Education Meeting approved the start of bids for upgrades at Zion Chapel School’s Baseball and Softball Complex.
The near $3 million project will include the construction of a new concession stand, bathrooms and a plaza with a sitting area. Also, a brand new hitting facility will be constructed for baseball and softball players. A new parking lot will also be constructed and drainage issues on the fields will be corrected along with new LED lighting with concrete poles throughout the complex.
“Coffee County (Schools) wants to insure that all of our facilities are up to date and that we are providing every opportunity – whether academic or athletic – to every student,” Coffee County Schools Superintendent Kelly Cobb said. “The baseball and softball complex needs some work and needs to be modernized and more effective for our athletes and that’s the goal with this project, as well as to correct some issues that we’ve had for many years.”
Cobb said that upgrades at the baseball/softball complex will begin in 2024 with an expected completion prior to the 2025 baseball and softball season.
The upgrades at the softball and baseball complex follows the construction of the $3.5 million gym at Zion Chapel School in 2021, which was needed because the school’s previous gym’s size was insufficient for a Class 2A school.
Additionally, Coffee County Schools will be renovating the locker rooms at New Brockton High School’s gym and a multi-purpose facility is being planned at Kinston School.
