Area teams compete in weekend hoops action

Over the weekend, a number of schools in The Messenger’s coverage area competed in basketball action.
The Goshen Eagles competed in back-to-back games Friday and Saturday night in the Tony Stallworth Invitational. Goshen lost to Abbeville 68-36 to Abbeville on Friday night. Sam Adams led Goshen with 11 points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocks, while MaKayel McBride earned seven points, seven rebounds, two assists, one steal and three blocks.
On Saturday, Goshen fell to Brantley 65-46. Bristow earned 20 points and three rebounds in the loss, while Ahmad Rogers picked up a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The Charles Henderson Trojans defeated Barbour County by a score of 48-38 on Friday. Despite trailing 6-2 after the first quarter and falling behind 18-12 at halftime, the Trojans dominated the second half and to pick up the win. Bray Jones led CHHS with 19 points, while Bradley Prestwood added eight points.
The Lady Trojans also picked up a 50-29 win over Barbour Count with Takeiya Brockton and Jasmin Foster scoring 14 points each. Kamari Stroizer also chipped in with 11 points.
The Trojans lost 52-43 to Carver-Montgomery on Saturday. Bray Jones again led the way with 15 points, while Cody Cross scored nine.
The Lady Trojans fell 51-38 to Carver on Saturday with Madison Ousley scoring 13 points for CHHS in the loss.
The Pike County Bulldogs fell 50-47 to Carroll on Saturday. Jay Burney scored 13 points for PCHS, while Kam Christian added 10 points and Markelis Hobdy scored nine points.
The 2A No. 6-ranked Zion Chapel Rebels picked up a 47-46 win over Ariton after Mason Stuart hit a layup with just seconds remaining in the game. Stuart then blocked an Ariton shot on the other end to seal the win.
Stuart scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the win, while Jacob Chestnut scored 12 points and Slade Grantham earned nine points. Ian Senn led Ariton with 20 points.
The Ariton girls picked up a 51-8 win over Zion Chapel. Maciliegh Bragg scored 18 points and seven steals in the win, while Nya Allen earned eight points and five steals.
