“Stubby Pringles Merry Christmas” will once again be featured on WTBF Radio on Christmas weekend –at 7 p.m. on December 23; 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve; and 9 a.m. on Christmas Day.
John-Mike McCall, WTBF morning program host, said “‘Stubby Pringle’s’ Merry Christmas” was recorded by WTBF as a Christmas special in 2022 at the We Piddle Around Theater in Brundidge. The program was so popular that it has become a WTBF Christmas tradition with families throughout the area.
McCall said “Stubby Pringle’s Merry Christmas” offers a special and very meaningful way to gather on the nights before Christmas with family and friends.
And who doesn’t like a cowboy story set in the snowy mountains of the Great Northwest at Christmastime.
McCall said, after a hard day’s work, Stubby Pringle was getting ready to “whoop it up” at a Christmas dance down in the valley. Stubby was excited about the dance and giving little to no thought to the real meaning of Christmas.
To get to the dance, Stubby had to cross the icy cold, snowy mountains. Along the way, he had to make several, unplanned stops and each stop brought him closer and closer to the real meaning of Christmas.
“Families gathering around the radio is reminiscent of the 1930s and ‘40s when the radio was the TV of the times,” McCall said. “’Stubby Pringle’s Merry Christmas is what Christmas is all about.”
Dolores Hydock, Alabama master storyteller, recorded “Stubby Pringle’s Merry Christmas” for WTBF and the Brundidge Historical Society and was accompanied by Bobby Horton, musical historian composer and performer.
A Merry Christmas to all.
