Charles Henderson tops Carroll in area matchup

The Charles Henderson Trojans picked up another Class 5A, Area 4 win on Tuesday by a score of 55-40 over the Carroll Eagles, completing a regular season sweep of Carroll.
The opening quarter was back-and-forth between the two teams until Cody Cross knocked down a three-pointer with 4:20 remaining to put CHHS up 9-8. Bradley Prestwood then buried a jumper and a three of his own to extend the lead to 14-8 with 3:09 left. Charles Henderson took a 18-14 lead into the second quarter and led 26-22 at halftime.
The Trojans threatened to break the game open early in the third quarter by going on a 9-0 run but Carroll’s 8-0 run followed that to cut the lead to 40-34.
Cross jumpstarted the fourth quarter with back-to-back threes to put CHHS up 46-34 with 7:15 left and Charles Henderson dominated the remaining seven minutes to secure the win.
The Trojans forced 15 turnovers and won the rebound battle 39-38. Cross led CHHS with 15 points and two assists, while Prestwood added 13 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Bray Jones chipped in with 10 points, two steals, three assists and six rebounds, while Jywon Boyd scored eight points, grabbed four rebounds, dished five assists, earned three steals and blocked two shots.
The Charles Henderson girls fell 35-32 in an area game with Carroll, as well.
