Pike County BOE considers personnel requests

The Pike County Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, January 15 and took care of housekeeping business. There was no unfinished business before the board.
In New Business, the board:
• Approved the Financial Statements for December 2023.
•Approved the request to enter an MOU with Troy University regarding the Mental Health Service Professional (MHSP) program. Funding will be through the MHSP Demonstration Grant Program.
•Approved the request for Brooke Terry to travel to and attend the Child Nutrition Director’s Spring Conference and the Alabama School Nutrition Association’s meeting, February 15-18, 2024. Funding will be through the Child Nutrition Program.
•Approved the request for Kimalin Hobdy, Sara Wilson, Annie Reynolds and Sylvia Green to travel to and attend the Alabama School Nutrition Association’s Conference, February 16-18 in in Birmingham. Funding will be through the Child Nutrition Program.
•Approved the request for Mike Johnson to travel to and attend the School Bus Specifications Committee meetings, February in Trussville. Funding will be through the General Funds.
•Approved the request for Mike Johnson and Brandi Mosely to travel to and attend the Annual School Plant Management Association Conference, April 21-24, 2024 in Orange Beach. Funding will be through General Funds.
•Approved the request for Brandi Mosely to travel to and attend the CLAS Alabama Association of School Personnel Administrator’s Conference, January 23-25, 2024 in Montgomery. Funding – General Funds.
•Approved the request for Dr. Donnella Carter to travel to and attend the AASPA 2024 Winter Conference, January 23-25. Funding through– ARP ESSER.
•Approved permission for Dr. Donnella Carter to travel to and attend the Alabama Superintendent’s Academy, February 19-20, 2024 in Tuscaloosa. Funding will be through ARP ESSER.
•Approved permission for Jamie Rich to travel to and attend the ACTA Spring Conference, April 17-20, 2024 in Orange Beach. Funding – PCS Perkins.
Approved the request for HOSA students to attend the HOSA Leadership Conference, February 29 –March 1, 2024 in Montgomery. Funding will be O&M and Health Science Account.
•Approved the request for Elijah Gilbert, Jeremy Knox and 20 welding students to travel to and attend the Western Welding Academy Blue Collar Tour presentation, February 11 – 12 in Jasper. Funding will be through the O&M and TPCT Welding Account
•Approved change to the Pike County School’s Mission Statement to reflect current commitment to providing high quality STEM instruction and activities for all students.
In personnel action, the board:
•Approved catastrophic leave for Carole Phelps, secretary, Goshen High School.
•Accepted the resignation of Keahsha Compton, fifth grade teacher at Goshen Elementary School;
•Accepted the resignation of Zack Wilson, music teacher, GHS.
•Accepted the resignation of Crystal Jensen, bus driver.
•Accepted the resignation of Walter Brown, SPED aide, GHS. Effective May 24, 2024.
•Approved the request to employ Dawn Hartzog, fourth grade teacher, GES.
•Approved the request to employ Susan Maddox, fifth grade teacher, GES.
Approved the request to employ Chelsey Scott, Special Education aide, Pike County Elementary School.
•Approved the request to employ Jeffery Myhand, bus driver.
•Approved the request to employ Alyssa Stabler, music teacher, Banks.
•Approved supplement for Ronique Boyd, track assistant, Pike County High School.
•Approved pay supplements for the following employees, for advanced credentials: Rachel Everett, Catherine Grissett and Julia Wych.
Personnel: All new hires are contingent on certification or a verified pathway to certification and background check.
