Goshen earns area win over Luverne, Ariton bests Northside

The Goshen Eagles picked up a 45-42 win over the Luverne Tigers in a Class 2A, Area 4 game on Thursday.
Goshen jumped out to a 13-6 lead in the first quarter but Luverne cut the lead to 19-16 at halftime. Luverne then took control in the third quarter and held a 29-26 lead into the fourth quarter. The Eagles won the fourth quarter, however, outscoring Luverne 19-13 to capture the area win.
Jamari Flowers led Goshen with 13 points, while Jayden McNabb added 10 points, six rebounds and three steals. KJ Bristow and Makayel McBride scored seven points each, while McBride also grabbed eight rebounds and earned eight blocks.
The Ariton Purple Cats picked up a 58-48 win over Northside Methodist on Thursday as Ian Senn scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Matt McNair added 16 points.
The Lady Purple Cats fell 27-17 to Northside. Macileigh Bragg and Lizzy Woodfaulk both scored five points each for Ariton.
The Pike County Bulldogs fell 37-27 to the Opp Bobcats on Thursday, while the Lady Bulldogs picked up a 34-31 win over the Lady Bobcats. Kondrea Griffin scored 10 points to lead Pike County, while JoJo Thomas earned eight points.
