Troy hires new defensive coordinator Dontae Wright

The Troy Trojans officially hired their new defensive coordinator Dontae Wright on Friday, Jan. 19.
Wright is the final hire for new head coach Gerad Parker’s on-field defensive staff and he comes after four years as safeties coach at West Virginia under former Troy coach Neal Brown. Wright will also serve as safeties coach at Troy.
Wright is a native of Louisa, Ky., and was a four-year starter at linebacker for Miami (Ohio). After graduation, he started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Kentucky and then became defensive line coach at North Alabama in 2010. In 2012, Wright was hired as defensive line coach at Centre College before moving over to Morehead State as defensive line coach, special teams coordinator and recruiting coordinator in 2013.
In 2015, Wright added defensive coordinator to his resume at Morehead State and then moved on to Tennessee Tech as defensive ends coach and special teams coordinator in 2016. In 2017, he became defensive coordinator at Tennessee Tech and then joined the staff of Western Michigan as safeties coach and co-special teams coordinator. In 2020, he joined Brown’s staff at West Virginia.
