TB&T Presents the 2024 All-Messenger Basketball Team

The 2024 All-Messenger Male and Female Basketball Team features some of the top players from the schools in The Messenger’s coverage area.

The Charles Henderson Trojans made an appearance in the Class 5A Elite 8 for the second straight season and were led by senior Jywon Boyd. Boyd averaged 17 points, 2.2 steals, 4.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game this season as the leader for the Trojans. Boyd ended his CHHS career with 1,287 points.

Joining Boyd on the Male All-Messenger Team is Markelis Hobdy and Kam Chrisitan from Pike County. Hobdy averaged 12.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 3.4 steals per game this year, while Christian averaged 12.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 4.5 steals per game.

The Zion Chapel Rebels had a big season in 2023-2024 and were led by the All-Messenger Male Player of the Year Slade Grantham, who averaged an area leading 19.1 points per game along with 6.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.3 steals per game.

Representing Pike Lib on the All-Messenger team is senior Will Rice, who led the area in both rebounds and blocks with 8.4 rebounds and 3.8 blocked shots per game. He also averaged 16.5 points and 1.4 steals per game. Ian Senn represents Ariton on the All-Messenger team, averaging 17.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 3.3 steals per game. He finished his Purple Cat career with 1,900 total points.

Receiving honorable mention is Zion Chapel’s Jacob Chestnut (15.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 2.5 steals per game), Pike County’s Khalil Foster (eight points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals per game), Pike Lib’s Sawyer Keck (16.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists and two steals per game), Pike Lib’s Jackson Mitchell (11.3 points, 2.3 assists, three rebounds and two steals per game) and Pike County’s Jydarian Burney (nine points, 12 rebounds and three blocks per game).

For the female All-Messenger Team, Ariton’s Nya Allen leads the way as the Female Player of the Year, averaging 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Joining her on the All-Messenger team is JoJo Thomas of Pike County (5.8 points, 7.2 rebounds per game) and Pike Lib’s Mary Holland Stephens (5.9 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and two steals per game).

Charles Henderson is represented on the All-Messenger by Takeiya Brockton (7.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game), Madison Ousley (nine points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.9 steals per game) and eighth grader Kamari Stroizer (6.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game).

Receiving honorable mention is Charles Henderson’s Jaasmin Foster (4.5 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game), Ariton’s Macileigh Bragg (9.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game) and Ariton’s Lizzy Woodfaulk (5.7 points and 3.8 assists per game).
