Area Baseball: CHHS drops matchups with Headland, Pike Lib tops Highland Home

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Charles Henderson Trojans dropped a pair of Class 5A, Area 3 matchups with Headland.
On Tuesday, Headland won the first game 8-1. Clay Johnson scored the lone CHHS run, while he also struck out a pair of batters and gave up three hits and one earned run in two and 1/3 innings on the mound.
In game two, CHHS fell by a score of 9-3. Wilson Jones, Owen Pugh and Trenton Bryan scored one run each. Parker Adams pitched five innings and struck out a pair of batters, while giving up nine hits and five earned runs.
The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots bested Highland Home by a score of 7-1 on Wednesday. Luke Barron went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, an RBI and a run, while Dawson Bradford scored two runs for the Patriots. Rhodes Baker pitched all seven innings and fanned seven batters, while giving up just two hits and one earned run on the mound.
The Zion Chapel Rebels lost 5-1 to the GW Long Rebels on Tuesday. Brodie Stinson scored the lone ZCHS run. Wes Braisted pitched five innings and struck out four batters, while giving up four hits and no earned runs.
The Ariton Purple Cats picked up a pair of wins over Abbeville on Tuesday. The Cats shutout Abbeville 16-0 in game one. Hughes Hammock went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three RBIs and a run for Ariton, while Lawson Leger and Myles Tyler scored three runs each. Caden Collier went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and three runs. Dalton Murphy pitched three innings and mowed down eight batters, while giving up no hits or runs.
Ariton also dominated game two, winning by a score of 16-1. Collier went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and three runs, while Hammock, Landon Givens and Leger each scored three runs. Addison Senn struck out eight batters and gave up no hits or earned runs in three innings pitched.
