Area Softball: Local teams compete in tournament action

A number of area softball teams hit the road to compete in tournaments on Monday with Ariton competing in the Spring Garden Spring Swing and both Charles Henderson and Zion Chapel competing at the Rebel Round Robin in Skipperville.
Ariton went 3-0 at the Spring Swing on Monday, beating Ragland, Spring Garden and Pisgah. In game one, the Lady Purple Cats defeated Pisgah by a score of 8-7. Ariton trailed 6-2 going into the fourth inning but the Purple Cats exploded to score six runs leading to the win.
Lizzy Faircloth went 2-for-2 at the plate with a double, one RBI and two runs, while Beth Dixon went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Macileigh Bragg also earned a double and scored two runs. Sydney Adams struck out two batters and gave up seven hits and six earned runs in three innings pitched.
In game two, Ariton shutout Spring Garden by a score of 3-0. Faircloth went 1-for-2 at the plate with a double, while Dixon scored two runs. Dixon also pitched five innings and gave up four hits and no runs to earn the shutout in the circle.
The Lady Cats finished off the day with another shutout win, 6-0 over Ragland. Caitlynn Webb went 2-for-2 at the plate with a home run, a double, two RBIs and two runs, while Nya Allen also went 2-for-2 with a homer, two RBIs and two runs. Faircloth struck out a pair of batters and gave up one hit with no runs in three and 1/3 innings pitched.
Charles Henderson started off the Rebel Round Robin with a 3-2 win over Geneva on Monday. Calleigh Compton led CHHS at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double and one run. Molly Garrett struck out six batters and gave up four hits and one earned run in six innings pitched.
CHHS followed that up with a 10-0 loss to the Class 2A No. 3-ranked Zion Chapel Lady Rebels. Reece Garrett earned Charles Henderson’s lone hit of the day. Katy Lee struck out one batter and gave up four hits and four earned runs in three innings pitched.
For Zion Chapel, Kennedy Hussey went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs, while Amber Kidd went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run. Riley Bannin earned the win in the circle, striking out nine batters and giving up no hits or runs in four innings pitched.
Zion Chapel also defeated Slocomb by a score of 7-3 on Monday. Kidd went 2-for-3 against Slocomb with a home run, four RBIs and one run. Elida Velazquez also hit a homer in the win. Sydney Boothe struck out four batters and gave up four hits and one earned run in six innings in the circle.
