The Troy Trojans (17-9) earned a dominant 12-2 win over the Florida A&M Rattlers (9-16) at home on Tuesday in eight innings.
Tremayne Cobb Jr. went 2-for-2 at the plate for Troy with a home run, three RBIs and three runs, while Kyle Mock went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and two runs.
A total of six Trojan pitchers toed the rubber against the Rattlers. Pavlos Piperakis got his first win as a Trojan, striking out two and giving up no hits or runs in one inning pitched. Sam Schmidt struck out three batters and gave up three hits and no runs in two and 1/3 innings on the mound.
“It was a good day at the park. I’m happy the rain pushed off around 2 p.m. so we could get a good day of baseball,” Troy Coach Skylar Meade said. “It was a great showing by our fans with it being the one time of the year we move up our game in the midweek. There was a lot of unselfish play with the bats. Defensively, we were clean for the most part—only one mistake on the chopper. Our pitching from the second inning onward was really good, and everyone was really good. They showed us a lot of stuff. It was just a good day at the park and now our attention turns to Southern Miss.”
Florida A&M had just four total hits as a team. Dallas Tease took the loss on the mound, striking out three batters and giving up three hits and four earned runs in three innings pitched.
Troy is back on the road this weekend for a Sun Belt Conference series with Southern Miss on March 28-30.
