Area Baseball: Local schools wrap up play at Gulf Coast Classic

Pike Lib and Ariton finished up play at the Gulf Coast Classic Baseball Tournament in Baldwin County on Thursday.
The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots dropped their finale in the tournament to Shelby County by a score of 7-3. PLAS earned just four hits as a team in the loss. Jackson Mitchell, Kade Brookins and Peyton Elliot scored one run each. Elliot also hit a double.
Dawson Bradford took the loss on the mound, striking out three batters and giving up four hits and six earned runs in two and 2/3 innings pitched. Cole Garrott also pitched one inning and struck out one batter, while giving up one hit and no runs.
The Ariton Purple Cats finished things off with a pair of games on Thursday. Up first, Ariton topped Calera by a score of 7-0. Jessie Pelham went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run, while Addison Senn went 2-for-2 with a run. Austin Evans pitched all six innings and fanned five batters, while giving up just three hits and no runs to earn the shutout on the mound.
The Cats closed out the tournament appearance with a 4-4 tie against Mortimer Jordan. Ariton led for much of the game but Mortimer earned five runs in the top of the fifth to take a 4-3 lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Lawson Leger hit an RBI single to drive Aven Cook in for the tying run.
Leger went 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs, while Cook scored two runs and both Caden Collier and Pelham scored one run each. Easton Kilpatrick struck out three and gave up four hits and one earned run in three and 1/3 innings pitched.
