The countdown to the Pike County Cattlemen’s Annual Equipment on Saturday, April 6 at Cattleman Park has begun. The gates will open at 8 a.m. and will close when the last items are sold.
However, first things first. Before any auction anywhere, there must be items on the auction block. And, already, the grounds next to Cattleman Park are evidence that this year’s Pike County Cattlemen’s Annual Equipment Action will be one for the books, said Cattleman Johnny Garrett
Even though the grounds are beginning to fill, items will be accepted today (Wednesday) and Thursday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. No items will be accepted on Friday April 5.
The auction will have everything from old-tiques to antiques and from wagons to tractors and trucks, wash pots, wire fencing, bicycles, advertising signs and chicken feeders.
“The auction will also have a large number of vehicles from the City of Troy, the Pike County Sherriff’s Department and the Pike County Commission,” Garrett said. “The vehicle auction will begin at 11 a.m. on auction day.
The Pike County Cattleman’s Equipment Auction always has a large number of items, a large number of bargain seekers and many who just enjoy the atmosphere of an auction.
“We’ll have two auctions going at a time and that moves everything much faster,” Garrett said. “We are looking for a big day, a good crowd and a lot of items bought and sold.”
The proceeds from the Cattlemen’s Auction benefit the upkeep of the Cattlemen Park and support the scholarship awards programs of the Cattlemen and Cattlewomen. The scholarships total about $20,000 annually.
