The Alabama Tourist Department has released its very popular “100 Dishes To Eat in Alabama.”
To make the brochure easier to navigate, the state had been split into four regions: North, Central, South and Gulf Coast.
Pike County is in the South region and has several entries to brag about and, perhaps, a puzzler.
Troy’s Crowe’s Chicken Fingers and Dipping Sauce is listed but the Troy location is closed, so perhaps, the recognition should have gone to Crowe’s in Brundidge, a very popular drive-though/dine in chicken eatery. Crowe’s in Brundidge was runner up in the Alabama Farmer’s Federation Bama’s Best Chicken Tenders contest.
The man who was in Troy for Crowe’s Fried Chicken, was confused, but not at all disappointed in Crowe’s Fried Chicken in Brundidge.
Also, recognized for their fine foods were Mossy Grove Schoolhouse’s beans and hushpuppies; Sisters Restaurant for its banana pudding; Old Barn Restaurant for its rum bread pudding and Red’s Little Schoolhouse for its apple cheese casserole.
Also, just a short drive away, is Cutt’s chili dogs, in Enterprise; and the Basketcase Café in Dothan for its homemade soups and Huggin’ Molly’s homemade “Molly Fingers in Abbeville.
And, for great chili dogs in a historic setting, it’s Chris’ Hotdogs in Montgomery.
