In 1980-81 he built a new store located on North Three Notch Street. They later purchased the Banks Buy-Rite and were the hub of the community until they retired. After retirement he filled his time with woodworking, primarily making porch swings. He produced over 900 swings made from cedar, cypress and pine. Many of his swings are still in use today.
