Area Softball: Zion Chapel tops Pike Lib

The Class 2A No. 3-ranked Zion Chapel Lady Rebels earned a close 4-1 win over the Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots on Thursday.
The two sides were knotted up 1-1 going into extra innings when Zion Chapel rallied to score three runs in the eighth to take a 4-1 lead. Landry Hataway scored on an error to give ZCHS the lead and then Kennedy Hussey drove in Shea Wambles and Hagen Sessions stole home to put Zion Chapel up 4-1. The Lady Rebels earned three straight outs in the bottom of the eighth to secure the win.
Riley Bannin went 3-for-4 at the plate for Zion Chapel, while Amber Kidd earned a double. Bannin pitched seven innings and mowed down 11 batters, while giving up four hits and one earned run.
For Pike, Allie Booth went 2-for-4 with a double and a run. Mary Stephens pitched all eight innings and fanned five batters, while giving up seven hits and three earned runs.
The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans dropped an area matchup with Brewbaker Tech by a score of 17-4 on Thursday. Janazia Cantlow led CHHS at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run. Molly Garrett went 1-for-2 with a home run, two RBIs and a run. Garrett also pitched three innings and struck out three batters.
