Troy Football’s annual T-Day spring game will take place this Saturday, April 27, at 2 p.m. and this week the team announced a unique format for this year’s game.
T-Day will have four quarters with a 20-minute running clock for each quarter. The first quarter will see 7-on-7 competitions and 1-on-1 competitions between the offensive and defensive lines and wide receivers vs. defensive backs. During the 7-on-7 portion, the offense earns two points for a completion and seven points for a touchdown, while the defense earns two points for an incompletion and 10 points for an interception. During 1-on-1 competition, the offense earns two points for a completion or if the offense wins the rep, while the defense earns two points for an incompletion or if the defense wins the rep.
In the second quarter, the two teams will line up and play an 11-on-11 traditional scrimmage with a few twists. The offense earns seven points for a touchdown and three points for a field goal but the defense also earns seven points for a stop and four points for a field goal allowed. The first side to reach 18 points in the quarter will receive a bonus seven points.
The third quarter will see the offense face the defense in open field and two-minute drill situations. The offense gets seven points for a touchdown and three points for a field goal. The defense will receive 10 points for a turnover, seven points for a three-and-out and four points for a stop.
The fourth quarter will be a skills competition including a number of Troy legends. There will be kicking, punting, quarterback, punt catching and big-man punt catch competitions. Troy legends that will also take part in this competition will include former Troy quarterback Corey Robinson, running back Jordan Chunn and receiver Chandler Worthy.
As it is every year, T-Day will be an all-day event for Troy Athletics. The festivities start at 11 a.m. with the annual Lunch with Legends that will feature a panel with Robinson, Chunn, former head coach Rick Rhoades, former quarterback Mike Turk and kicker Lawrence Tynes.
Following Lunch with Legends, the annual Future Trojans Kids Camp will take place inside Veterans Memorial Stadium at noon. The popular Athletics Yard Sale will take place in the West Concourse of Veterans Memorial Stadium at 1 p.m.
The T-Day Game kicks off at 2 p.m. and then Troy Softball will host rival South Alabama at 4 p.m. Admission to T-Day and the softball game are free.
