Troy native and former Charles Henderson star Maori Davenport announced on social media that she was transferring to Alabama A&M for her final year of college basketball eligibility.

The 6-foot-4-inch Troy native was one of the top high school players in the entire country during her career at CHHS. Davenport was a two-time AL.com Super-State and First-Team All-State. As a senior, she average 13.8 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.6 blocks, 2.4 steals and 2.2 assists per game. As a junior, she averaged 18.2 points, 12 rebounds, 5.1 blocks and 1.7 assists per game as she helped lead CHHS to a State Championship.

She went on to earn a scholarship to Rutgers University and during her freshman season there, she averaged 2.7 points and 2.3 rebounds per game in 29 games. Davenport transferred to Georgia for her sophomore season and played in 14 games.

Davenport transferred to Arkansas-Pine Bluff in 2022 and averaged 8.5 points, 1.5 blocks and 5.8 rebounds per game in 24 games in 2022-2023. This past season, Davenport averaged 4.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 1.3 blocks per game.

Davenport will play back home in Alabama for Alabama A&M for her final year of eligibility. In April, Alabama A&M hired new head coach Dawn Thornton, who previously served as head coach at Arkansas Pine Bluff – Davenport’s previous school – for four years before stepping down in April.
