On Thursday, Troy Trojans sophomore catcher Brooks Bryan was named a semifinalist for the 2024 Dick Howser Trophy by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Assoociation.
The Dick Howers Trophy is awarded annually to the national college baseball player of the year, named in honor of former MLB player and manager Dick Howser, who passed away from brain cancer in 1987.
Bryan comes into the final season of the regular season already having broken Troy’s single-season RBI record. He broke Joey Denison’s record of 81 RBIs in a season last weekend when he earned his 82nd RBI of 2024.
Bryan leads the entire Sun Belt in RBIs. He currently holds a .295 batting average with 10 doubles, two triples, 17 home runs, 50 runs and 82 RBIs. On defense, the Opelika native boasts a .996 fielding percentage with 206 putouts and 17 assists.
Finalists for the Dick Howser Trophy will be named on June 8 and the award will be presented at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Neb., on the MLB Network at 9 a.m. on June 13.
