Zion Chapel competes in State Softball Tournament

The Zion Chapel Lady Rebels traveled to Oxford to compete in the Class 2A State Softball Tournament.
On day one, Zion Chapel knocked off Sumiton Christian in the first round of the tournament by a score of 9-7. Riley Bannin went 3-for-5 at the plate for ZCHS with a triple and one RBI, while Kennedy Hussey went 3-for-5 with a double, one RBI and one run. Madison Meeks went 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and two runs, while Shea Wambles went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. Aubrey Bassett also went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.
Bannin pitched six and 2/3 innings and struck out 11 batters, while giving up six hits and five earned runs. Sydney Boothe also pitched 1/3 of an inning and fanned one batter, while giving up no hits or runs.
Next, Zion Chapel fell to Thorsby by a score of 5-2 in the second round. Hussey went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Boothe pitched six innings and struck out seven, while giving up six hits and three earned runs.
In the elimination bracket, Zion Chapel fell 3-2 to Hatton in an elimination game despite a late rally. Going into the bottom of the sixth, ZCHS trailed 3-0 but scored two unanswered runs to come within a run only for Hatton to hold on for the win.
Against Hatton, Wambles went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run, while Meeks went 2-for-3 with a run. Bannin pitched a complete game, striking out seven and giving up seven hits and three earned runs in seven innings.
