Troy City Schools Board of Education approves facility upgrades

At the Troy City Schools Board of Education meeting on May 20, a number of facility upgrades throughout the school district were approved.
First up, the school board approved the rescinding of previously approved bids for audio-video equipment due to an error in receiving bids. Then, a bid for audio-video equipment at Charles Henderson High School was approved in the amount of $14,205.95 to QEW Audio/Video and a bid from Bailey Brothers in the amount of $14,281.11 was approved for the installation of audio-video equipment at Charles Henderson Middle School.
A bid for HVAC installation throughout the school district was approved in the amount of $68,500 from Stone Cold Heating and Cooling. Also, the bid of $12,000 from Boutwell Flooring for sidewalk additions at Charles Henderson Middle School was approved. A bid in the amount of $78,800 from Ram Enterprises for the replacement of the carpet flooring in the Troy Elementary School gym was also approved. The flooring will be replaced with a rubber gym flooring.
Also, bids from Alabama Contract Sales for the removal of old bleachers and installation of new ones at Charles Henderson High School and Charles Henderson Middle School gyms were approved. The cost is $4,200 for the high school and $2,750 for the middle school. This cost does not include the purchase of the new bleachers themselves.
All awarded bids were the low bids for each project.
The school board approved the purchase of Life Insurance polices for school employees. These policies will cost the school system $2 per month, per employee and will cover a $10,000 policy, which the employee will be able to keep even after retirement. Employees will also have the ability to purchase additional life insurance coverage from the company, as well.
The school approved a request to surplus and sell Child Nutrition Program equipment, which includes a garbage disposal and vending machine. The board also approved amendments to the budget for fiscal year 2024 (FY2024). These amendments include carry over funds from the 2023 budget and additional grant funding that was received after the passage of the budget.
The school board approved a request for admission of out-of-district students that have been approved by Troy City Schools principals. The board also approved the annual evaluation of Troy City Schools Superintendent and CSFO.
