Alabama’s top peanut producing counties

The 2023 Peanut Count Estimates for Alabama have been release by USDA Alabama Peanut Producers Association. Three area counties are in the top five peanut producers in the state.
Houston County topped the scales with 89,640,000 pounds of peanuts produced.
Geneva County produced 65,750,000 pounds and Henry County was third in peanut production with 49,750,000.
In the southern section of the state, Baldwin County produced 55,690,000 pounds and Mobile County produced 35,860,000 pounds.
The state total in peanut production was 480,510,000 pounds of peanuts.
The major peanut producing states are: Georgia, which grows about 42 percent of all United States’ peanuts, followed by Texas, Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, Virginia, Oklahoma and New Mexico.
About 60 percent of the peanuts grown are used to make peanut butter.
