The Birmingham Stallions (8-1) saw their 15-game winning streak – dating back to the 2023 season – snapped this weekend in an 18-9 loss to the San Antonio Brahmas (7-2) on the road.
Birmingham’s usually potent offense put up just 278 total yards in the loss, while San Antonio rolled up 329 yards. The Brahmas scored on a 36-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter to take an early 6-0 lead. Birmingham responded with a 34-yard field goal in the second quarter but the Brahmas extended their lead to 12-3 at halftime with a 1-yard touchdown run.
In the third quarter, Birmingham’s Adrian Martinez threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jace Sternberger to cut the lead to 12-9 but San Antonio sealed the win with a 9-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Martinez completed 18-of-32 passes for 211 yards with a touchdown and an interception along with 56 yards rushing on five carries. Sternberger caught seven passes for a season-high 110 yards and a score. DeMarquis Gates led the Stallion defense with nine tackles, one tackle-for-loss, one sack and a forced fumble, while Kyahva Tezino tallied eight tackles and two tackles-for-loss.
The next two weeks will be interesting for the Stallions, who have already locked up home field advantage in the playoffs. Birmingham and Michigan will play at Protective Stadium this Saturday, June 1, in what is effectively a meaningless game as the two sides will rematch in the USFL Conference Championship the following week on June 8 with a spot in the UFL Championship on the line.
