The Troy Post 70 19U summer baseball team split its Battle of the Wiregrass series with the Alabama Outlaws out of Ozark this weekend.
In game one, Post 70 came away with a 4-3 win after Dothan’s Blake Wynn hit an RBI single into center field in the top of the seventh inning to drive Macon-East’s Gunner Justice home for what would be the game-winning run.
Wynn went 4-for-4 at the plate on the day with a double, an RBI and a run. Providence Christian’s Matt Snell went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Justice went 2-for-3 with a run. Troy native Payne Jefcoat went 1-for-4 with a run. Dothan’s Cole Hewitt pitched three and 1/3 innings and struck out three batters, while giving up one hit and one earned run.
In game two, the Alabama Outlaws won 8-7 on a wild pitch when the score was tied – with the bases loaded – in the bottom of the seventh. Florala’s Cody Walsh went 2-for-4 with a run, while Wynn went 2-for-3 with a home run, a triple, two RBIs and three runs. Ariton’s Caden Collier went 1-for-2 with three RBIs. Wicksburg’s Easton Dean pitched three innings and fanned four batters, while giving up four hits and four earned runs. Dale County’s Aiden Wright also pitched three innings and struck out five batters along with giving up three hits and three earned runs.
Troy Post 70 gets back to action this weekend in Tuscaloosa for the Alabama/Mississippi Border Battle. Post 70 looks to improve every week heading into the American Legion State Tournament in July as they look to return to the American Legion World Series for a third consecutive season.
