Troy Post 70 sweeps pair of doubleheaders

The Troy Post 70 19U summer baseball team won a pair of doubleheaders last week in American Legion action.

First, Troy Post 70 swept Arrows 18U on the campus of Charles Henderson High School on June 12. In game one, Troy shutout the Arrows by a score of 9-0. Future Troy Trojan Cody Markham led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run. Pike Lib’s Will Rice got the win, striking out three batters and giving up no hits or runs in three innings pitched.

In game two, Post 70 won 6-1 to complete the sweep. Markham had another big game at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, one RBI and three runs.

Troy Post 70 followed that up with a pair of wins on the campus of Pelham High School this weekend. First up, Troy knocked off Post 555 by a score of 13-4. Markham went 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs. Ariton’s Caden Collier went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs. Troy native Payne Jefcoat went 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and a run.

Rice pitched three innings and struck out three batters, while giving up two hits and one earned run. Aiden Wright also struck out three batters and gave up one hit and no runs in two innings on the mound.

Troy Post 70 wrapped up the weekend with an 11-1 win over the Madison Mud Dogs. Jefcoat scored two runs for Troy, while Cam Dyer went 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs. Brody Lindey and Jackson Kilcrease combined to strike out 10 batters, while giving up just two combined hits and one run.

The Troy Post 70 17U team also earned a doubleheader shutout sweep over the Wiregrass Indians 17U team on the campus of Wallace Community College in Dothan on June 15. In game one, Troy won 15-0. Jacob Shiver went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs. Bryce Gover pitched four innings and struck out three batters, while giving up two hits and no runs.

In game two, Troy won 8-0. Shiver went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, while Ariton’s Aven Cook went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run. Pike Lib’s Cole Garrott also went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run. Goshen’s Tyler McLendon pitched three innings and struck out four, while giving up two hits and no runs.
