Local softball players have success in tournament action

A number of local softball players competed in softball tournament action this past weekend with several having big weekends.

Charles Henderson’s Jada Jones helped lead the Lady Dukes Softball Club to a 5-0 record during the Backwards K Softball Showcase in Newberry, Fla., this weekend. The Lady Dukes beat Crush 16U by a score of 8-4, knocked off Texas Glory Venice by a score of 3-0, bested the North Florida Rage by a score of 4-2, throttled Angels Shuman by a score of 18-1 and knocked off Team North Florida by a score of 11-0.

Jones earned a .562 batting average during the weekend with a .588 on-base percentage and .688 slugging percentage with one triple, five RBIs, five runs and three stolen bases. She also boasted a perfect fielding percentage on defense with no errors and 17 putouts.

A number of Pike County and Pike Lib players were also in action for the 4Ever5 Sports Softball Club at the Scout Town Showcase in Fultondale. Pike County’s Jada Duncan earned a .582 batting average with an RBI, two runs and five stolen bases. She earned five putouts, one assist and a double play on defense, as well. Her former Pike County teammate Auriel Moultry earned a .333 batting average with three runs and she also had three putouts on defense. Pike Lib’s Yaley McLendon pitched nine and 1/3 innings and struck out three batters, while holding a 5.250 ERA. On defense she also earned a perfect fielding percentage with two putouts, one assist and a double play.
