Gary Michael
Cunningham
Gary Michael Cunningham, 74, died Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. A Memorial Visitation will begin at 11:00am at Collins-Burke Funeral Home in Jasper on Friday, July 19, 2024, followed by a private family and friends Graveside Service at Blooming Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Cunningham was born on September 26, 1949, in Jasper, Alabama, to Dorothy Martin and Bill Cunningham. He was a proud Viking of Walker County High School, Class of 1967, where he lettered in baseball and football. He raised two successful children and spoiled three grandchildren. Mr. Cunningham and his late brother, Jimmy, were avid “Roll Tide” fans and enjoyed attending University of Alabama football games in the fall. Anyone that has known Mr. Cunningham knows that over the years you were likely to find him getting a round of golf in with his lifelong, hometown friends anywhere in the southeast. The past few years, Mr. Cunningham would consistently make daily trips “jogging” around Troy to check on the city progress. His favorite part of the week was “Papa Slick Thursday” when he would pick up his grandchildren and treat them to an afternoon snack. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mike is survived by his children, Matt Cunningham and Sunny Smith (Tom) and three grandchildren, Charley Kate, Andi, and Lainey. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Jimmy “Sonny” Cunningham.
The staff of Green Hills Funeral Home is honored to serve the Cunningham family. Online condolences may be made at www.greenhillsfuneralhome.net
