CHHS names former Auburn star Kam Pettway new offensive coordinator

Charles Henderson High School recently announced that former Auburn football star Kam Pettway has been named the football team’s new offensive coordinator.

Pettway is a Prattville native that earned All-State honors at Prattville High as a senior running back after rushing for 1,402 yards and 17 touchdowns. He was ranked as one of the top running backs in the country coming out of high school and signed with Auburn University.

At Auburn, Pettway became the team’s leading rusher as a redshirt sophomore, tallying 1,224 yards and seven touchdowns on 209 carries on his way to earning All-SEC honors in 2016. Pettway battled a number of injuries in 2017, playing in just five games.

In 2018, Pettway signed with the Minnesota Vikings of the NFL and went on to play professional for the Columbus Lions of the National Arena League and the Raramuris de Ciudad Juarez of the Futbol Americano de Mexico (Mexican American Football) league for a number of years.

Pettway started his coaching career as running backs coach at Central-Phenix City, helping lead Central to a Class 7A state runner-up finish in 2019. He has also coached at Banks Academy and Vincent High School. At Banks, also coached track and field leading Banks to an AISA State Championship in track in 2023.
