Troy Post 70 17U captures State Championship

The Troy Post 70 17U summer baseball team captured the Alabama American Legion 17U State Championship last weekend.

Post 70 defeated Tuscaloosa Post 34 by a score of 5-4 in the championship game. Troy Post 70 also defeated the Warriors 5-3, beat Northport Post 208 by a score of 15-3, knocked off Post 555 by a score of 2-1 and beat Bibb 11-5. A number of Pike County athletes compete for Post 70.

Pike Lib’s Cole Garrott earned a .308 batting average in the tournament with four RBIs and three runs. He also pitched three innings and struck out four batters, while giving up one hit and two earned runs. His Pike teammate Kade Brookins earned a .400 batting average with two RBIs and two runs. He also pitched one inning and fanned a pair of batters, while giving up one hit and no runs.

Goshen’s Tyler McLendon went 2-for-3 at the plate in the tournament with one run, while he pitched three and 1/3 innings with five strikeouts. He gave up just two hits and no earned runs on the mound.

Artion’s Aven Cook also earned a .444 batting average for Post 70 with six RBIs, five runs and one double.
