Troy All-Stars remain alive in Dixie Belle’s World Series

After a long weather delay, the Troy All-Stars – representing Alabama – remain alive in the Dixie Softball Belle’s (16U) World Series.

After starting the tournament off with a win over Louisiana on July 20, the Belles dropped game two to North Carolina by a score of 16-5 on July 21. Charles Henderson’s Calleigh Compton went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI, while Brookie Horn went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run. Ariton’s Beth Dixon, Charles Henderson’s Janazia Cantlow, Pike Lib’s Mary Holland Stephens and Pike County’s Hailey Griffin each scored one run.

Compton pitched two innings and struck out a batter, while giving up one hit and three earned runs. Stephens also pitched three innings and gave up two hits and one earned run. Griffin earned five putouts on the defensive end.

Troy then battled Florida on July 22 but the game went into a weather delay with the Alabama representatives leading 1-0 in the fourth inning. The game continued on Tuesday with Troy’s All-Stars remaining alive in the World Series with the 1-0 victory.

Pike Lib’s Julianne Meyer scored the lone run for Troy. Dixon pitched three innings and struck out two batters, while giving up one hit and no runs. Horn also struck out three and gave up three hits and no runs. Griffin earned a perfect fielding percentage with 11 putouts, while Compton also held a perfect fielding percentage with four putouts and two assists.

The Troy All-Stars will play again later on Tuesday.
