Betty Joyce Parish Chancellor

Betty Joyce Parish Chancellor, age 87, a resident of Troy, died Friday, August 2, 2024 at her home. Funeral services for Ms. Chancellor will be held Monday, August 5, 2024 at 3pm in the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home with Dr. Ross Lankford officiating. Burial will follow at Murphy’s Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:30pm – 3pm at the funeral home.

Betty Joyce Parish Chancellor

Ms. Chancellor was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Born to Robert and Mary Parish in Birmingham, AL,  she moved early in life and spent much of her childhood in Galveston, TX. After leaving Galveston her family moved to Headland, AL where she was a member of Headland high school class of 1955. After high school she attained her bachelors degree from Troy State, before going to the University of Alabama to earn her Masters degree in Library Science. Towards the end of her school career she began her 48 year career as a librarian at Troy University. She served as both the president and treasurer of the Delta Kappa Gamma society for women educators. Ms. Chancellor was also an devout christian and long time member of First Baptist Church, singing in the choir for many years. Perhaps above all else she loved her family and cherished the time she spent with them. she was loved by many and will be missed by all.

She is survived by her daughter, Kaye C. Davis (Glen); granddaughter, Sarah Madison Davis; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy S. Chancellor; parents: Robert and Mary Parish; brother, Gene Parish; and sister, Ann Parish

The family would like to extend a special thank you to, Loretta Blair, Jennifer King, and Betty Duncan for the compassionate care for Ms. Betty over the last few months.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Troy or the Murphy Chapel Cemetery Fund.
