On Sunday afternoon, around 2 p.m., the Pike County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call that a man had been shot in the 1200 block of County Road 3339.
Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas said when deputies arrived, they made entry into the residence where Haynes Ambulance Service paramedics were administering aid to a male victim. Thomas said the victim was shot once in the chest. Thomas said deputies secured the area and began to interview bystanders.
Thomas said the victim was stabilized and transported by Haynes Life flight to a trauma center in Montgomery where he remains in critical condition.
Thomas said during the investigation, investigators were able to determine Richard Jason Brown, 49, of Lapine, was a suspect. Thomas said investigators located his car near his residence in the 300 block of Posey Road Crenshaw County. Thomas said an arrest warrant was issued and the PCSO Special Response Team responded to the location along with Crenshaw County investigators and Alabama State Troopers.
Thomas said the SRT was met by the suspects parents on the front porch and were brought to a safe location. Thomas said the SRT called Brown out of the house and shortly thereafter Brown came to the front door and surrendered peacefully.
Thomas said Brown was placed under arrest for attempted murder and bond was set at $200,000. Thomas said he would like to thank the Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Office, the 12th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency for their assistance in resolving the case.
