Football season is right around the corner

As schools around the area begin the 2024-2025 school year, that means football season is right around the corner, as well.
Some teams will begin the season as early as Aug. 23 with both preseason jamborees and regular season games taking place. The Charles Henderson Trojans and Pike County Bulldogs in Brundidge for their annual preseason jamboree on Aug. 23. Additionally, Goshen will host Geneva for a preseason jamboree on Aug. 23.
Meanwhile, Pike Liberal Arts School begins its first season eligible for the playoffs at home against Class 3A’s New Brockton in the regular season opener on Aug. 23. Zion Chapel will also open its regular season at home against county rival Kinston on Aug. 23.
Ariton will begin the season on Aug. 30 at Georgiana in the Purple Cats’ regular season opener.
Meanwhile, at the college level, Troy University kicks off 2024 at home against Nevada on Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. as the two sides meet for the first time. The Alabama Crimson Tide begin the Kalen DeBoer Era at home against Western Kentucky at 6 p.m. on Aug. 31.
Auburn will start off the season on Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. against Alabama A&M, while Alabama State doesn’t start things off until playing North Carolina Central at home on Sept. 1 at 2 p.m.
