“I can’t paint!”

How many times has Mary Page heard that? 

If Page has heard that one time during her 24 years of teaching art at the Colley Senior Complex, she has heard it more than a thousand times.

But, it’s just not true.

“You don’t have to be an artist to enjoy painting,” Page said. “I don’t know how many times I’ve heard seniors say, ‘Oh, I can’t do that!’ But, then, it doesn’t take long before they are really enjoying painting.”

Page said she always tells her students, tells everyone, “you don’t have to be an artist to enjoy painting, however, the more one learns about painting the greater their enjoyment of art.

Page said her art class of senior adults produces artwork that is really good and very much appreciated by family members and friends.

The panting class at the Colley Senior Complex is open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Those who would like to visit or consider joining, are welcome.

Minnie Stringer is a member of Mary Page’s painting class at the Colley Senior Complex. Both agree the class is relaxing, enjoyable and an opportunity to take something “nice” home.
