JCA to honor local arts pioneers Sunday

The board of directors of the Johnson Center for the Arts invites the public a Sunday reception honoring the late Mack Gibson, who served as chairman of the board of the cultural arts center for 14 years. He was the first board chairman serving until September 2026.

The reception will be held from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday during which a portrait of Gibson will be unveiled and dedicated. The portrait of Ethel and Holman Johnson, for whom the Johnson Center is named, will also be dedicated.

The Johnson and Gibson families were instrumental in the establishment of the Troy-Pike Cultural Arts Center giving their time, talents and treasures from the inception of their dream of an arts center for the people of the City of Troy and Pike County until today.

The lower gallery will also be open for those who wish to view the work of Mary Holman Johnson. A reception in her honor is to be announced.
