The Troy Arts Council will present an encore performance by the IKS Big Band from Russelsheim, Germany, from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday on the square in downtown Troy.
And, because IKS’ promises have to be kept, the IKS Big Band does exactly what is motto promises: It brings back the big swing.
Legendary standards by brilliant musicians including Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman are just as much a part of the repertoire as the lesser-known works, exceptionally arranged catchy tunes, and composition, sometimes even from their own ranks.
The IKS Big Band from Russelsheim, which as the name suggests, started out as a school band and now is known far beyond the city limits.
Concert tours have taken the professional and amateur musicians, under the direction of band leader Horst Hasselhoff to Bulgaria, Switzerland and Hawaii. Whether traveling around the world or in their home region, it is clear that the jazz musicians have one thing in their luggage. Big Swing.
So, don’t hesitate if your feet start tapping, your fingers want to snap and your heart suddenly feels light as a feather, hardly anyone can escape the magic of this music. Whether you dance, hum along or just listen and enjoy, the IKS will inspire you.
Set your clock, your watch or iPhone for 6 p.m. Thursday. The IKS concert is not to be missed, so be on the square in downtown Troy.
