The Troy Arts Council will host an encore performance by the IKS Big Band from Russelsheim from 6 until 8 p.m. tonight on the square in downtown Troy. IKS performed Sunday night at the Claudia Crosby Theater.
The City of Troy will be host to this band that brings back the big swing.
Legendary standards by brilliant musicians including Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman are just as much a part of the repertoire as the lesser-known works.
Troy’s Olaf Lieb sang with the band Sunday night. The band also performed an original song that Olaf wrote, “Carpe Diem”– it was the world premiere performance of the song.
Maggie Hammond, president of the sponsoring Troy Arts Council, said concert tours have taken the professional and amateur musicians, under the direction of band leader Horst Hasselhoff, to Bulgaria, Switzerland and Hawaii. Whether traveling around the world or in their home region, it is clear that the jazz musicians have one thing in their luggage. Big Swing.
So, if your feet start tapping, your fingers want to snap and your heart suddenly feels as light as a feather, then that’s IKS’s magical music.
The IKS concert is not to be missed, so be on the square in downtown Troy tonight. Don’t wish that you had been!
