Troy Post 70 dominates to start World Series run

Troy Post 70 opened up play at the American Legion 19U World Series by throttling Hudson Post 100, representing Massachusetts, by a score of 10-1 in the first round on Thursday.

Blake Wynn (Dothan) led Troy at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three runs, while future Troy Trojan Brady Richardson (Enterprise) went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run. Cody Walsh went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs. Troy native Payne Jefcoat went 1-for-3 and Ariton’s Caden Colier scored one run. Future Trojan Cody Markham (Pike Road) also scored two runs.

Cole Hewett (Dothan) pitched four innings and struck out four batters, while giving up five hits and no earned runs. Easton Walsh also struck out two batters along with giving up no hits or runs in two innings pitched. Jefcoat also earned eight putouts and one assist on defense. Troy had one defensive error on the day.

Troy will continue play in the second round on Friday and throughout the weekend. Games will stream live on ESPN+.
