The death of Dr. Michael “Mickey” DiChiara on Monday, August 12. 2024, covered Troy and the extended area with a cloak of sadness.

DiChiara, a longtime Troy physician, touched many lives throughout the medical community as a personal physician and by the way he lived his life. His legacy will continue through the works of the young physicians whose lives he touched, professionally and, in the way, they live their lives.

Jon Adams worked with Dr. Mickey DiChiara for more than 20 years and his influence continues as a guide today. “Dr. DiChiara taught me many lessons about life and medicine.” Adams said. “The best advice, he gave me was ‘do the right thing’. That applies to all situations, not just those medical situations. His jovial demeanor will be missed by all who knew him. I couldn’t have asked for a better mentor and friend than Mickey.”

Dr. Robert Liljeberg said DiChiara was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word.

“He was never proud or boastful,” Liljeberg said. “He was humble and gentle with a quiet smile and a wonderful sense of humor. Mickey was a joy to be around professionally and personally. His death will be a tremendous loss to this community, my family and myself.”

When Rick Gill arrived in Troy 18 years ago, Dr. DiChiara took him under his wing.

“He taught me the importance of making the patient the priority in a successful practice,” Gill said. “He always said to just take care of the patient and the business and bills will take care of themselves.”

When the Gills, Rick and Heather, opened their current practice 15 years ago, they found Mickey and Cheryl and tried to learn the art of owning/operating/managing a private practice.

“Although Heather and I are heart-broken by his leaving, we know in our hearts that Mickey and Cheryl are walking hand in hand in a better place. Love and prayers to the entire DiChiara and Colley families from Heather and me… and from all who knew them.
