Goshen hosts Alabama Christian in season opener

The Goshen Eagles will open the 2024 football season this Friday, Aug. 30, against the Alabama Christian Eagles (1-0).

Goshen is coming off a 35-0 win over Class 4A’s Geneva in a preseason jamboree last week. Goshen rolled up 363 yards in the win, while holding Geneva to just 147 total yards.

Goshen’s Sam Adams completed his only pass for 79 yards and a touchdown in the win, while Jayden McNabb completed 3-of-6 passes for 63 yards. McNabb also rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns on just seven carries. Szemerick Andrews also rushed for 40 yards and a score and Josh Terry scored a rushing touchdown.

Jerbauri Williams caught a 79-yard touchdown pass. Tyler McLendon caught a pass for 41 yards. On defense, Landon Chandler led the Eagles with 11 tackles and Terry tallied 11 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, one sack and one interception.

Meanwhile, ACA is coming off a 30-26 win over Escambia County in their season opener last week. Goshen and ACA have met just one time in the past, a 3-0 ACA win in 1990.

Goshen will host Alabama Christian on Friday at 7 p.m. at Eagle Stadium.
