Around this time every year, it’s peanut boiling time in Luverne, Alabama – the site of the World’s Largest Peanut Boil.
The sponsoring Crenshaw County Alcazar Shrine Club already had peanuts in the pots around noon Tuesday with the first batches of the “world’s best boiled peanuts” to come off around noon today (Wednesday).
Andy Thompson, Crenshaw County Alcazar Shriners Club, said plans are, and hopes are, to have enough boiled peanuts to last through the Labor Day Weekend. However, that depends on the amount of beach traffic and local support.
Thompson said the peanuts will remain same at price, five dollars for a small bag and 10 dollars for the large bags.
“We want the Shrine Club’s boiled peanuts to be the best you can buy and at affordable prices,” Thompson said. “This year, the Crenshaw County Alcazar Shrine Club will have parched peanuts once again. A lot of people enjoy them as much as they enjoy boiled peanuts. So, we’ll have both and hope that we’ll have enough to last through Labor Day.”
The Shrine Club’s peanuts sell fast and sometimes there is a wait time.
“The best times to come with the best chance of not having to wait is late at night or early in the morning,” Thompson said. “To help with the wait time, the Shriners are posting times on our website, Crenshaw County Alcazar Shrine Club. Hopefully, that will cut down on the wait time.”
However, most connoisseurs of boiled peanuts will say the wait is worth it.
