On Saturday, Jackson Hardware in Brundidge will close its door after 124 years in business.
Jackson Hardware celebrated its 100th year, and counting in, August, 2000 with downtown weekend event.
John Hatcher Jackson, Sr. opened the hardware in 1900. The ownership of the hardware spanned three generations. The late Bill and Maureen Jackson owned the hardware until their daughter Judy and her husband assumed ownership.
There was a big 100th year weekend celebration with a proclamation by the mayor and council, music by the country and western band, Patsalagi dancing by the Southside Shufflers and gospel music by the Christianaires. The celebration continued on Saturday, the celebration continued with gospel and chances on football autographed by Gene Stallings, Mike Dubose and Pat Dye. It was a great two-day celebration of the continuation of a family-owned business.
Judy Jackson Mobley said those times of family ownership of Jackson Hardware were and remain special to her.
However, there came a time to sell the family-owned business. It wasn’t an easy decision but it was time, Mobley said.
