Troy native and internationally-acclaimed artist Fred Nall Hollis died on Sept. 14, 2024, in Fairhope – where he owned a studio and gallery.

He was the son of Mary Winifred Nall Hollis and Joe Frost Hollis. Nall’s father was a local banker and the family moved from Troy to Arab, where Nall finished high school.

Troy University Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins said Nall was a treasure, not only, for Alabama, but for the world around us.

“Nall had the ability to see things that were not, yet, he had the artistic talent to transform his ideas into works of art which made the world more beautiful,” Hawkins said.

Nall was known far beyond Troy and Alabama, not only for his art but, also, for his generous support for the arts here at home and far beyond.

Hawkins said the Troy University community has benefitted greatly from Nall’s generosity.

“The NALL Museum located in the International Arts Center on our campus is a reflection of the love and respect he enjoyed at Troy University,” Hawkins said. “Nall was an integral member of the Troy University family, and, on a personal level, our family.  Nall will be remembered as one of America’s greatest artists.”
