A 15-year-old student was arrested after allegedly threatening to “shoot up” Goshen High School.

Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas said the student posted on social media Sept. 20 for students to “Stay home tomorrow” he was going to “shoot up the school.” Thomas said when school administrators became aware of the post, they immediately contacted the Pike County Sheriff’s Office.

Thomas said there was never a credible threat to the school. He said the administration’s quick action and cooperation from the Pike County School System allowed the incident to be resolved quickly.

Thomas said the juvenile was confronted with the post and was taken into custody. Thomas said the juvenile’s parents were notified of the incident and the juvenile was taken to the Pike County Jail in the presence of his grandmother.

Thomas said during the investigation, additional posts were discovered on social media of the juvenile with several different firearms. Thomas said the PCSO had been unable to locate any of the guns in the photographs.

Thomas said the juvenile had been charged with making a terrorist threat.

In a separate incident, Thomas said a Troy man had been charged with multiple drug offenses.

Thomas said the PCSO worked a drug detail with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency that resulted in the arrest of Xavier Jarrod Burks, 25, of Troy, on Sept. 21.

Thomas said Burks was charged with drug trafficking-methamphetamine, second-degree possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Thomas said a third weekend incident resulted in the arrest of another 15-year-old juvenile.

Thomas said a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for violations on Alabama Highway 87. Thomas said the driver attempted to elude the deputy and turned off on County Roads 3304 and 3307 before losing control of the car and wrecking in a ditch.

Thomas said two people fled the vehicle on foot and the driver attempted to flee. Thomas said the deputy issued commands to the driver of the vehicle, but the driver disobeyed the commands and initiated an altercation with the deputy. Thomas said the suspect attempted to take the deputy’s pistol, and knocked the officer’s body camera off and dislodged a light from the deputy’s pistol in the struggle.

Thomas said a second deputy arrived and helped subdue the suspect.

Thomas said during a search of the vehicle, deputies found methamphetamine, marijuana, pills, alcoholic beverages, empty beverage containers, several empty .380 shell casings and one live .308 round along with an Airsoft style pistol.

Thomas said the juvenile was charged with possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, disarming a law enforcement officer and attempting to elude. Thomas said the passengers in the vehicle remain at large. He said one passenger was identified and will be questioned on Wednesday but the third passenger remains unknown.
