Troy Volleyball competes at Wisconsin Invite

The Troy Trojans (5-5) volleyball squad headed to Madison, Wis., on the campus of the University of Wisconsin, this past weekend to compete in the Wisconsin Invite.

In the first match, Troy lost 3-0 to No. 7-ranked Wisconsin. Troy lost all three sets 25-18, 25-19 and 25-14. Tori Hester led Troy with 13 kills, three digs, one ace, one ace and one block. Amiah Butler tallied nine kills and seven digs, while Janelle Stuempfig earned 12 assists, one kill and three digs. Anna Smrek led Wisconsin with 10 kills and seven blocks.

Next, Troy lost to Texas A&M by a score of 3-1. Troy won the first set 25-22 but Texas A&M took the next three sets 25-14, 25-15 and 25-18.

Butler led Troy with 15 kills, two assists, two aces and seven digs, while Hester chipped in with 11 kills, two assists, one block and six digs. Steumpfig dished 22 assists and Jaci Mesa earned 10 digs.

“I was proud of our effort and fight today against a very good Texas A&M team,” Troy Coach Josh Lauer said. “We learned a lot this weekend as a team and now all our focus shifts toward conference play starting with South Alabama on Thursday in Trojan Arena.”

Troy opens Sun Belt Conference play this week with a pair of matches at home against rival South Alabama on Sept. 26 and Sept. 27. Both matches begin at 6 p.m.
